My day before Christmas...
I mite say this is almost becoming a ritual with me ..someting to do on the day before christmas.... where-ever i am, i make it a point to drive around looking at all christmassy stuff out there: decorated houses, malls, shops, all the santas of the area etc etc...And sometimes, i am quite baffled by those who have the time and energy to put up streamed co-ordinated lights (enough lights to light up villages) , themed trees and all.
It's not that I'm a festive grouch, a slouch is more like it. The maximum extent I've gone to is maybe hang up a single christmas decor in each of my living areas (one at office, one at home, one in my car). Maybe i'm a minimalist!!! :) Atleast i'm not like some of my friends who use the christmas holidays solely to tie up loose ends or work on their tax papers.
Aneways, back to what i'm really baffled by.. the deocrations on the outside.. T'was the year before last, My friend Darren showed me a house decorated for xmas in maitland, florida with 10,000 christmas lights fit in. i'm saying 10,000 lights becoz t'was some huge number like that. t'was probably more than ten thousand. Why would anyone want to cover every square inch of their house and lawn with blinking, circling, whirring, flashing, prancing lights ???? I 'd say Chennai, Bangalore and hyderabad are somewhat saner on the outside decorations note. These are the only other places i've been till now during xmas. 'course..these places have their fair share of decor craze during the festive months of october, november and january.
I like interior decorating, but i usually regard extensive holiday decorations a hassle. Maybe i will get into it once i have my own house, who knows? And i'll have my dog put up antlers and get me a red santa cap and pose for a xmas card picture! :)
